چکیده

A three-dimensional heat transfer model for friction stir welding (FSW) is presented in this paper; a moving coordinate is introduced to reduce the difficulty of modeling the moving tool. Heat input from the tool shoulder and the tool pin are considered in the model. The finite difference method was applied in solving the control equations. A non-uniform grid mesh is generated for the calculation. FSW experiments have been done to validate the calculated results. The calculated results are in good agreement with the experimental results. The calculation result also shows that preheat to the workpiece is beneficial to FSW.  2003 Elsevier Science Ltd. A Coupled Rigid-viscoplastic Numerical Modeling for Evaluating Effects of Shoulder Geometry on Friction Stir-welded Aluminum Alloys

Shoulder geometry of tool plays an important role in friction-stir welding because it controls thermal interactions and heat generation. This work is proposed and developed a coupled rigid-viscoplastic numerical modeling based on computational fluid dynamics and finite element calculations aiming to understand these interactions. Model solves mass conservation, momentum, and energy equations in...

Thermal Analysis of Friction Stir Welding with a Complex Curved Welding Seam (TECHNICAL NOTE)

Friction stir welding (FSW) can be defined as a green technology, because the consumption of energy during this process is less than other welding methods. In addition, during the process there is no gas, filler material or other consumables. It should be noted that, complex curved shapes are now commonly used in different industries in a bid to have lightweight structures. According to the abo...

Effect of Tool Shoulder and Pin Cone Angles in Friction Stir Welding using Non-circular Tool Pin

In friction stir welding frictional heat is generated by the rotating tool, sliding over the stationary plate along the weld centre. Tool being the only source of heat producing member, its geometrical design influences the heat generation rate. In this present work, effects of variation in tool shoulder and tool pin taper angles on thermal history during joining are analysed. Tools with triang...
